St. George's Church, 2222 Brunswick St., Halifax
Rector: Fr. George Westhaver
Under the direction of Garth MacPhee, St. George’s Choir will sing anthems by William Byrd, G. P. daPalestrina, Peter Wishart, R. V. Williams, Edward Bairstow and Anton Bruckner.
This beautiful Service of Lessons and Carols will be shaped by the Great O Antiphons of Advent. These antiphons were originally sung before and after the Magnificat at Evensong on the seven days before Christmas. They express the Advent longing for the Saviour. Each of the O Antiphons is based on an Old Testament title for the Messiah, which is fulfilled and given its true sense by Christ. The first hymn at this service, O come, O come, Emmanuel rehearses the antiphons. Please join us for this service foretelling the coming of the Light into a world of darkness, a central feature of the Advent preparations at St. George’s Church.
